Team science training
Team science education designed to get you off the hamster wheel of overwork and into the joyful research career you deserve!
Workshops and courses that work
Cross-disciplinary work is essential for conducting the kind of high-impact, world-changing research you want to do. But coordinating communication, methods, tasks, and deliverables across multiple labs, disciplines, and institutions can add overhead and quickly become all you do. You didn’t spend years training to be a project coordinator!
The TSL workshops and courses are designed to help you build skills and practices that systematize the work of team science, giving you more time and energy to do science and the confidence to become the leader you want to be.
I have delivered practical, actionable team science and collaborative research workshops, courses, and seminars to hundreds of researchers, from post-docs to senior faculty, at research organizations across the US, including the University of Wisconsin, Northwestern University, University of Texas-Southwestern, Stanford University, Columbia University, and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
As a scientist, I ensure that all of my trainings draw on rigorous research and proven approaches and include a detailed evaluation plan.
Any TSL workshop can be customized and delivered for your organization or audience. I am also available for Grand Rounds style seminars designed to introduce your researchers and research staff to the opportunities and challenges of team science and interdisciplinary research. The R01 Launchpad
Congratulations - you got your first big grant!
It’s a huge, well-deserved accomplishment… and now it’s time to get to work!
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by setting up the systems that you need to launch and manage a successful research project, the R01 Launchpad can help.
Running a science lab is like building a start-up company within a massive bureaucracy, yet few scientists receiving any training in the management and leadership skills and practices required to lead a successful research program. The R01 Launchpad helps you build robust, scalable research systems to launch your R01 and catapult you into a future of collaborative, high-impact science!
Over 6 months, you’ll work with Dr. Betsy Rolland, an NIH R01-funded investigator, certified professional coach, and expert in Team Science, to develop the personal, administrative, and logistical support systems you need to run a successful research project.
collaboration planning facilitator training
Collaboration Planning is a 90-minute structured session that works with your team to think through your approach to working together, proactively addressing the areas that most frequently cause conflict in teams, including authorship, communications, and project management.
This training is offered in two varieties: (1) for team leaders working with their own teams or (2) research leaders interested in developing a Collaboration Planning program at their institution.

team science education for post-docs
The Team Science Lab offers training for your postdocs and early-career researchers. Drawing from the field of the Science of Team Science, I teach the practical skills and strategies they need for interdisciplinary collaboration. As an NIH-funded researcher, I have a deep understanding of the challenges new investigators face in building their collaborative skill set.
This training is designed so participants will be able to implement the skills in their collaborative work now, as postdocs, and also into the future as research leaders to help them thrive in academic research environments.
