Meet the founder of the team science lab!
betsy rolland, PhD MLIS MPH
I am passionate about helping researchers, especially women, make academia work for them. During my time in academic research, I have served as a PI, a research program manager, a post-doc at the National Cancer Institute, and a Team Science core leader for a CTSA. While I love the work, I sometimes find the academic culture unnecessarily challenging to navigate. Over the years, I discovered that saying no to work that didn’t help me achieve my purpose was not so bad! You can, too.
As an expert in Team Science, I have delivered seminars and workshops in collaboration to hundreds of scientists and research staff, from graduate students and post-docs to project managers and senior investigators. I have worked closely with members of dozens of teams to improve their team processes to better support doing high-impact science. Embedded in my coaching are strategies to help you work more effectively within your own team and with others as your research program grows. Check out TSL’s Substack for more practical strategies!
I completed my certification in professional coaching in June 2023 and have coached more than a dozen women researchers at all levels, as well as research staff, in building sustainable research careers.
I hold a PhD in Human Centered Design & Engineering and a Master of Library & Information Science, both from the University of Washington, and an MPH from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. I have published extensively on the science and practical application of team science, as well as several cancer prevention topics.
